The Homeschooling Walla Walla Annual Book Swap and Resource Fair is Back (and Bigger Than Ever)

If you have been part of the Homeschooling Walla Walla community for any length of time, you already know that June means one thing: the Annual Book Swap.

For the past five years, homeschooling families from across the Walla Walla Valley have gathered together at the end of the school year to swap books, find great deals on used curriculum, and enjoy a few hours of genuine community with people who understand exactly what this homeschooling life is like. It is one of my favorite events of the year, and I know from your messages and conversations that it is one of yours too.

This June, we are bringing it back. And for the first time, we are making it bigger.

Introducing the Combined Book Swap and Resource Fair

This year, the Annual Book Swap is joining forces with a homeschool resource fair, all in one afternoon at Calvary Chapel Walla Walla. That means you can browse curriculum from local vendors, connect with homeschooling resources and businesses that serve our community, and find your next great book haul all in one place.

Same community. Same end-of-year energy we all love. Just more of it.

How the Book Swap Works

If you are new to our community, here is how it goes. Families bring any books or curriculum their kids have outgrown or will not be using in the coming school year. You have two options: set your books out on the free table for any family to take home, or set up at a sale table and sell them yourself.

If you are selling, plan to stay for the event so you can be there to collect your money. At the end of the afternoon, any unclaimed books from the free tables are donated to the AAUW book sale, a local organization that supports women in our community who are returning to college. It is one of the details I love most about this event. Your leftover curriculum goes on to do good long after the swap is over.

Why This Event Matters for Walla Walla Homeschool Families

Homeschooling in Washington state comes with real costs. The average homeschooling family spends around $600 per year on curriculum and materials alone. For families here in the Walla Walla Valley, finding affordable used curriculum locally is not always easy. The Book Swap exists to change that. It gives families a way to recoup some of what they have spent, find gently used books at a fraction of the retail price, and do it all while connecting with other local families who are on the same journey.

The resource fair component adds another layer to that. Meeting local vendors and curriculum providers in person means you can ask real questions, flip through actual materials, and make more confident decisions about what will work for your family and your kids.

What to Expect at the Resource Fair

This year we are welcoming local homeschool vendors and curriculum providers to set up tables alongside the book swap. Whether you are looking for a new curriculum approach, exploring co-op options, or just curious about what resources are available to homeschooling families right here in the Walla Walla Valley, the resource fair is a great place to start. Vendor details will be announced once they are confirmed, so stay tuned.

When and Where

The event will be held in mid-June 2026 at Calvary Chapel Walla Walla. We are finalizing the exact date now and will announce it very soon.

A Note from Shawnita

Five years ago I started this event because I believed our homeschooling community in the Walla Walla Valley deserved a local gathering place. A reason to show up, connect in person, and feel less alone in this calling. I still believe that just as much today.

Whether you walk away with a bag full of books, a new curriculum idea from a vendor, or just a conversation with another mom who gets it, I hope you leave feeling more supported and more connected than when you arrived. That is what this community is for.

I cannot wait to see you there!
